Our Mission
"Displaying God's Glory". This preach gives a great taste of what we're about as a church. Preached at Kings church on 09.11.08 by Jeremy Simpkins.
Jesus told his disciples “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
We believe that the local church is the hope of the world and our mission is to “Let the light shine”. We want to fill Edinburgh, Scotland and the world with the light of Christ.
How do we work this out? At Kings, we feel God has called us to:
- Build a large church that is diverse in cultures, ages and backgrounds. We are convinced that the local church should reflect the 'multi-coloured light' of His people all together worshipping with one heart (Rev 5:9)
- Reach out to the people of Edinburgh with the good news of the Gospel, the light of God, in word and action demonstrating the compassion of God to a lost world. (2 Cor 4:4)
- Teach the Word of God in a relevant, passionate way ,maturing and equipping the church for service (Psalms119:105)
- Welcome the Spirit of God, the light of His presence, in use of the gifts of the Holy Spirit to help equip the church in maturity and unity (Psalm 89:15)
- Train and release leaders, to fulfil all God has for them both in Kings, and in planting more churches a people called as a light to the nations. (Isaiah 42:6)
- Extend generosity to the poor and oppressed worldwide. (2 Cor 8:1-6)
Like Jesus, we want to be full of grace, generous-hearted, friendly and lots of fun!
