The Alpha Course

Explore the meaning of life

Join in

What is your purpose in life? Is there more to life than this? Does God exist? Alpha is an opportunity to explore these questions and more, in a fun, non-pressurised environment. It’s for people who don’t go to church or haven’t been in a long time and are interested in learning more about the Christian faith.

Our next Alpha course begins at Granton Hub, Granton Park Avenue, Edinburgh, EH5 1HS, on Monday 6th March at 12pm. To join in, please get in touch – and it’s free!

Each week, we’ll have soup and sandwiches from 12pm, we’ll watch an Alpha video and spend time talking about it, finishing by 2pm. We can’t offer formal childcare but children are welcome, and pets too!

There’s no pressure to talk if you don’t want to. Every opinion is valid and every question welcome. The course is open to everyone, especially those with tough questions about life and Christianity.

Who is it for?

Who is Alpha for?

Alpha is designed primarily for people who aren’t churchgoers. People come from all sorts of backgrounds, with all sorts of experiences and viewpoints.

Why do people go on Alpha?

Guests try Alpha for a variety of reasons; some want to investigate whether God exists or question what happens after death, whereas others come to discuss particular questions, understand other peoples’ beliefs or explore the meaning of life.

Do I need to be a Christian to do the course?

No, in fact, the course is designed for anyone who is interested in asking questions or learning more about the Christian faith. Many guests have never been to church before.

What is it about?

What will we talk about?

Each session covers a different topic, which people are then free to discuss in the small groups afterwards:

  • Is there more to life than this?
  • Who is Jesus?
  • Why did Jesus die?
  • How can I have faith?
  • Why and how do I pray?
  • Why and wow should I read the Bible?
Are my questions too controversial for church?

The course is designed for people to freely ask the tough questions about life and the Christian faith, so all questions are welcome.

What if I try it and don’t want to come back?

Alpha aims to be a low-pressure and non-threatening experience. If you don’t feel that the course is for you, you are under no obligation to return.
