The Place
Whithaugh Park is a residential centre situated in the unspoilt landscape of the Scottish Borders, surrounded by forests and rivers. It is around two hours’ drive from Edinburgh, located between Hawick and Carlisle.
Accommodation
We have booked the entire site for our exclusive use. Sleeping is in cosy wooden cabins (some bunk beds), and room sizes vary from two to five people. Bathroom facilities are shared between the people in each cabin.
There is also an option to camp, or stay off-site then travel in for the meetings and meals; availability is limited and you would need to arrange the camping gear/accommodation yourself.
Whithaugh Park can supply a very limited number of travel cots – if you’ll need one, please let the office know.
Transport
There is a coach leaving from our building at 4.30pm on Friday afternoon, returning Sunday afternoon.
You’re welcome to drive your own car – please let us know if you have spare spaces and you’re willing to give lifts. Earliest arrival on site (unless you are on a set-up team) is 5pm.
Food
All food will be supplied, and will be served in a marquee to allow us to eat together. We are planning a barbecue as people arrive on Friday afternoon (5pm onwards). Breakfast will be available from 7am each day. On Saturday night there will be a Hog Roast, and vegetarian alternative. We will have lunch together before departing on Sunday.
Fun
On Friday evening, we will be able to chat around tables over a drink (BYOB, if you’d like).
On Saturday afternoon you can choose from the centre’s activities, including swimming, walking, open canoeing, zip wire, and a bouncy castle. Canoeing, zip wire and swimming must all be booked in advance, which you can do as you sign up.
We’re also hoping to have an all-age disco, so bring your dancing shoes.
Meeting with God
We will have times to worship, hear God’s word and respond. We’re thrilled to have a team coming to be with us from a New Ground church plant in Rotterdam: Phil and Sarah Varley, and Tom and Tineke Kleinhout! These meetings will be on Saturday morning and evening, and Sunday morning.
King’s Kids will also have sessions on Saturday and Sunday morning, and we’re in planning mode for other activities that kids will enjoy throughout the weekend.
